Alongside Neurosis and Isis, CoL are titans of the genre, slab-sized riffs and cavernous drums are their calling card.

We leave
We are not conquerors
Upward
We are not conquerors
Toward new dreams
We are not conquerors
A new hope
We float with the tide
An odyssey'

Cult Of Luna's 'Mariner' album was a landmark on the post metal landscape, yet they have consistently released solid albums since 1998. Alongside Neurosis and Isis, CoL are titans of the genre, slab-sized riffs and cavernous drums are their calling card.

It's hard to pick or rank CoL's albums in order or preference, they possess a vast body of work, tracks like 'The Watchtower' and 'Leave Me Here' serve as a window into their early sound, being rough and noisy. CoL are all about evolving, 'Finland', 'Back To Chapel Town' and 'Dark City, Dead Man' show a deep side to them, a strong Neurosis current running throughout.

'Eternal Kingdom' is the finessing of their sound, jagged darkness and warm light intertwine, it's heavy and beautiful all at once. CoL are good at the cerebral attack, the drop that hits like a slab after a long build and it's all on display. Recent album 'A Dawn To Fear' has some excellent moments like this, especially on track 'The Silent Man'; it's oppressive!

CoL show no signs of letting up, they are a formidable prospect live (lucky enough to see them perform Mariner with Julie Christmas in Leeds), you need to come up for air sometimes, they are that heavy! If you miss ISIS as a source of powerful, emotive post-doom, Cult Of Luna will take care of you.
